There are lots of other pockets of activity happening as part of the Transition Together project - both part and future...

Transition Streets Solar Photovoltaic Panels (electricity panels) Offer 2010

In 2010 Transition Together received a grant of £675,000, from the Dept. of Energy and Climate Change. This was spent on a PV installation for the Civic Hall as well as  householders grants of up to £3000 for solar PV for Transition Together who applied to the Transition Street fund.     

130 households took up the grants and installed solar PV systems on their roofs.

Over a few months this stopped 4,874 kg of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere since June 2010 and generated 11,336 kWh for their owners (see here for more or visit the Totnes Bookshop’s TV display). And that was only from the Civic Hall and 45 domestic Transition Streets solar-PV systems. And that was before counting the final 90 systems that have been installed since! (latest stats coming soon...)

The terms of our grant from the government meant the job has to be done by April 2011, and the money spent up front, hence the choice of solar pv. We’re now exploring how we can extend the Transition Streets project beyond March because demand for the solar-PV grants has been so high.

In fact, 100 households who applied couldn't take part due to the project’s limited grant funds. Priority was given to groups with the highest proportion of lower disposable income applicants.
