Grants for home (energy) improvements
- Seach the Energy Saving Trust's grants database at www.energysavingtrust.org.uk or call them on 0800 512 512 for information about which grants you may be entitled to (you'll need your postcude and the names of your energy suppliers).
Equipment you can borrow from the project office, for a nominal fee
- Low-Energy Lighting Sample Kit - this has a wide range of sizes and shapes of bulbs for you to try out at home, including spotlights and dimmable bulbs.
- OWL Energy Monitor - this simply and safely connects to a cable coming out of your meter and tells you exactly how much electricity you are using at that time. Take the hand-held display around your home, turning things on and off as you go, for an instant adjustment - this lets you know where you are using (and maybe wasting) electricity. It's addictive!
Both of the above items can be collected from the project office. Please call first to check availability. We request a £1 donation for each day you have each piece of equipment (this helps to cover its purchase costs). Each requires a £10 fully refundable deposit to be left with the project office.
Note that Totnes Library also loans, for free, a type of energy monitor that you can use with one appliance at a time. For example, you can plug in your tv through this device, and it tells you how much electricity your TV is using. You cannot use this for things that have no removable 3-pin plug e.g. overhead lights, electric cookers, immersion heaters etc.
